My name is Christiaan Rudi Blom. I live in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Despite being born Afrikaans, I had to learn English in order to go to the school nearby. However, now my Afrikaans is just awful. At least it gave me a unique accent. People are always asking me where I’m from, and always surprised when I say South Africa.
I’ve loved reading since I was very young. My mother first got me started on comics, because I could never sit still long enough to actually read just lines. But then I gradually shifted over to books and absolutely loved it. The first book that I wrote, as all writers begin, I’m sure, heavily plagiarised The Golden Compass. However, I learnt a lot from it. Never feel bad at beginning by copying someone. Copying is the first step to being good at something.
